Creating an online store isn’t that hard. There are platforms that help you set one up in minutes. But creating an online store that actually works, that sells, that people enjoy using and want to come back to… that’s a different story.

At Axiacore, we’ve been building digital products for years. We’ve worked with big and small brands, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s this: eCommerce isn’t just about technology, it’s about experience.

Here are some best practices that can help if you’re thinking about launching (or improving) your online store:

1. Make it easy, from start to finish

Don’t overcomplicate things. From the moment someone lands on your site to the moment they pay, everything should feel smooth and effortless. If the user has to think too much, look for buttons, or guess what to do next… they’ll probably leave.

What works:

  • Simple, visible menus

  • Useful (but not endless) filters

  • Clear, real product photos

  • Prices upfront, no surprises at checkout

2. Don’t sell products, sell trust

An online store doesn’t have salespeople to answer questions. That’s why your design needs to do that job. How? By making things clear and building trust every step of the way.

3. Optimize for mobile

Over 70% of eCommerce traffic comes from mobile. Yet many stores still prioritize desktop design. Big mistake. Mobile isn’t an “extra”, it’s the main battlefield.

Make sure buttons are easy to tap, text is readable, and users don’t have to open 20 windows just to pay.

4. Keep checkout short and stress-free

This is where many sales fall apart. The customer already decided to bu, don’t give them reasons to back out.

Avoid:

  • Long, complicated forms

  • Forcing users to create an account

  • Slow or broken processes

Better:

  • Autofill fields

  • “Guest checkout” options

  • Fast payment methods like Apple Pay or PSE

5. Design matters more than you think

Thoughtful design builds trust and shows you care. You don’t need something over-the-top or wildly “creative.” You need something that looks good, works well, and reflects who you are as a brand.

We always say: the best design is the one you don’t notice, because everything just flows.

Launching an eCommerce site isn’t just about putting products online. It’s about designing a complete experience for your users. And even though there are plenty of tools out there, the real difference is in the details.

If you want your store to sell more, start by stepping into your customer’s shoes. Would you feel comfortable buying there? Do you trust it? Is everything clear? If the answer is yes, you’re on the right track.

And if you need help, we’re here for that too.
