Known for its religious significance, with a historic church at its summit, Monserrate has long been a destination for local pilgrims and international tourists alike. While visitors can access the summit via hiking, funicular, or cable car, growing crowds have led to long wait times, and outdated systems limit ease of access for tourists unfamiliar with local currency.
